In this lesson my 7th grade ELA students will continue in the unit of studying poetry. They have been exploring poetry through different forms, studying language, and getting comfortable with our spoken word skills.
Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and link to and cite sources as well as to interact and collaborate with others, including linking to and citing sources.

Lesson Plan I used a lesson from Read Write Think! The Word Mover activity I chose can be used with a smart board, whereby students drag and drop words they like to create a short poem. We have already done a unit on haiku, so the activity will be to build a haiku using this interactive activity! I will demonstrate the activity first. Students will be assigned to work in pairs or groups of three, to create the poem together. While the group is up front building their poem, other students are re-reading haikus quietly to each other to refresh their memory. Each team will have a chance to come to the front, use the smart board, and create a poem. For students who are not skilled in reading and writing, they have the option to create a poem using images.
The students will be assessed across three parameters: 1. Did they use the haiku form properly- 5/7/5 2. Did they use imagery rich language? 3. Does their poem flow and have a sense of cohesion? After each group has created their haiku, we will screen shot them and talk about them out loud. Each group can practice reading their poem out loud. That will also help us determine cohesion, and if their intention translated!?
